Educational Opportunities
Playground safety is everyone’s first priority.
But how do you know if your existing equipment is safe enough
or if it needs replacing?
Many people use either the CPSC
Guidelines or ASTM Standards to evaluate their equipment for
safety compliance, as those documents are a great resource for
the consumer who may have just a question or two about their specific
playground. However, for professionals who deal with playground
safety on a daily basis, a deeper level of knowledge is a must.
The National Playground Safety Institute (NPSI) is the only
nationally-recognized program to train playground professionals
on all aspects of playground layout, safety, design, and risk
assessment, and it is based on the criteria established by CPSC
and ASTM. Sponsored by the
National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), it is a rigorous
two-day course with an optional exam to become a Certified Playground
Safety Inspector (CPSI). This course is especially valuable for
parks and school maintenance personnel, risk managers, playground
designers, and anyone else for whom playground safety is a priority.
The course is offered at various locations and dates around the
country---check the NPSI
website for a course near you.
A side note: While all members of your SiteLines playground team
are NPSI-certified CPSI’s, we remain unbiased and don’t
inspect other brands of playground equipment besides GameTime.
If you need referrals for inspectors who can do an audit or inspection
of your non-GameTime playground equipment, please feel free to
give us a call.
